– “Trilogical Cooperative Businesses: Challenges for Worker Owned Enterprises”

Panel Proposal/Workshop Information
Panel/Workshop Year: 2012
Abstract:
Trilogical Cooperative Businesses are alternatives that are NOT Socialism and NOT Capitalism, but a means by which workers manage and control their own productivity and the means of production. The challenge is how to: 1) initiate and sustain such enterprise in the face of opposing political, economic forces, and 2) shift worker consciousness from that of consumer-employee to that of owner-worker. Since the early 1980’s, the International Society of Analytical Trilogy has been operating Trilogical cooperative businesses, the first one of which opened in 1984 in NYC, and soon spread to London, Paris, Stockholm, Helsinki, Lisbon and São Paulo. All have had certain common characteristics: financial stability; constant growth; and satisfied clients and workers. What distinguishes the Trilogical cooperative enterprise from existing traditional companies is that they are scientifically organized, structured and tested in such a way as to provide socio-therapy – to help make society and the individuals in it saner. And they address some of the main concerns of the progressive Occupy movement –i.e., how to: 1. practically start-up and operate such enterprises with worker-owners earning directly according to their productivity; 2. use alternative banking and finance approaches; and 3. counteract the infectious effects of the “pathology of power” – i.e., greed, selfishness, laziness, antagonism and insecurity – that plagues capitalistic society and its enterprises.

Session 1 E328 / Saturday 10:00 – 11:50 AM

– The challenges of centralized economies versus a decentralized one an in-depth analysis.

Panel Proposal/Workshop Information
Panel/Workshop Year: 2012
Abstract:
This Panel will attempt to discuss the pros and cons of a centralized economy versus the opposite- decentralized economy. Centralized economy is traditionally used as the paradigm for most countries of the world. Centralized economy in this case means economic decisions vested in the hands of a few members of the society, be it the privileged 1% of the population, the ruling class or the governing party bureaucrats. Decentralized economy would be the total opposite. Economic decisions will be vested amongst members of the local community with participation of specialists and experts of different fields within the community and with the local government . We will attempt to brainstorm the best scenario for the present day crisis in the USA and the Global community.
